Head of Department
Ing. Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computer Engineering of the College of Engineering. He is also a fellow of The Energy Center (TEC), a multi-disciplinary research unit in the College of Engineering.
Ing. Dr. Akowuah has a Ph.D. degree in Electronics from the University of Kent, England, where he worked on novel surface plasmon resonance sensor designs for aqueous environments. His earlier degrees are an MSc in Broadband and Mobile Communication Networks from the University of Kent and a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana.
He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE). In 2009, he received the IEEE UK/RI Communication Chapter MSc. Prize for his outstanding performance during his MSc. degree.
His research interest include finite element modeling of photonic devices, photonic crystal fibers, metamaterials, surface plasmon polaritons, high-speed optical communication systems and devices, wireless communication systems, grid-connected systems, hybrid Photovoltaic (PV) energy systems and intelligent energy management systems. He has extensive research publications in reputable international journals in these areas. He has extensive experience in the management of EU and AU sponsored projects. He has also served as the ICT consultant to the University and has provided consultancy services to several engineering and IT firms.
